Blepharitis is a condition where the eyelids become inflamed, red and irritated. In severe cases, blepharitis can even lead to ulceration of the tissues. Anterior blepharitis, which is very common, is caused by a sensitivity to and a buildup of skin oils and microorganisms on the eyelids and eyelashes. Posterior blepharitis, which is now more frequently called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), describes the thickening, inflammation and dysfunction of oil glands on the posterior surface of the eyelids. Posterior blepharitis is believed to be caused, at least in part, by the presence of anterior blepharitis. Unfortunately, blepharitis can contribute to ocular surface disease and even dry eyes. Thankfully there are many ways to treat blepharitis at home using just a simple routine. Below are the products I mention in this video.
