If it is an infection (red swollen eyelid, red eye, painful, restricted eye movement, proptosis, blurred vision, fever, etc), it is best to see a medical professional for a diagnosis and possibly antibiotics.
If it is an allergy (cold compresses, antihistamine eye drops and oral medications can help)
If it is due to blepharitis or an eyelid stye, still best to see a local eye doctor but warm compresses often do help – see thse video for more details and treatment options explained
