Can stress cause vision problems?
Stress has been linked to cases of functional vision disorder and central serous chorioretinopathy.
Functional Vision Disorder is not fully understood but describes vision loss related to neuropsychological causes – oftentimes, once stress and mental health issues have been addressed, vision problems resolve.
Central Serous Chorioretinopathy is a common retinal condition where serous fluid leaks behind the retina due to a thickened and hyperpermeable choroid. This is often associated with elevated endogenous and exogenous cortisol levels.
